About Carlo and Startup PH Training

After failing in my VC-funded tech startup which I founded and ran for two years, I found myself teaching other founders how to not make the same mistakes through lots of coffee and running public workshops. I also started doing private workshops like the startup training program by PSIA and DICT, the Ideaspace Program, Smart Sweep (for college students) to name a few.

Soon I found myself doing private corporate innovation training where I taught Design Thinking and Agile to government units and larger corporations such as Phivolcs, Department of Agriculture, Microsoft, PNB, Cebuana, Alveo, and more.

Finally, I've had the opportunity to bring the same highly interactive workshops into higher education by teaching entrepreneurship in Mint (Meridian College), CIIT College of Arts and Technology, and now CIIT Senior High School. I barely did exams but I did give a lot of homework and expected them to find paying customers. And find them they did.

So now I want to share the same learning to more people, practice what I preach, and build my career through digital products and coaching programs.

Week 1 - 2: Understand Your Customers and Find Problems Worth Solving  

  • What you will learn and do: Gain empathy through interviews, observation and or immersion
  • Output: Personas and Journey Maps

Knowing your customer's goals, frustrations, values, etc allows you to design a great product and position it correctly

Knowing the actions your customer takes and how they feel about each, lets you know how to give them a great experience

Week 3 to 4: Testing and Iterating Solution

  • What you will learn and do: Test pricing and features with potential customers by collecting signups
  • Experiment Tracker 

Based on the Javelin Board and Lean Startup's Build-Measure-Learn  framework. This tracker lets you to turn idea into an assumption, design and build an experiment to test it, run the experiment and measure the results. This is also where you keep your find all the key insights gained over time.

Week 5 - 6: Find Your First Paying Customers 

  • What you will learn and do: Soft-launches and pre-sale campaigns to try getting paid through a mix of pitches, posters and interviews. Did they buy? Start serving them! Not buying? Find out why and pivot pivot pivot! 
  • Tools You'll Use:  Sales Funnel

The sales funnel measures how many are able to go from being made aware of your product, to considering it, to signing up then later on becoming a paying customer

Here’s a startup founder’s journey that I keep seeing play out time and again. 


You come across a fantastic idea that (you think) nobody or only a few has thought of and you're convinced that pursuing this idea will dent the universe (or at least the industry it’s in), It will also transform the lives of the founders, of everybody else involved and the people you will help.
